Colon cleansing: Is it helpful or harmful?
I’ve read many negative things about colon cleansing, but I don’t believe any of them. Colon cleansing generally sounds like a good way to clear toxins from your body. What do you think?
Answer
from Michael Picco, M.D.
Proponents of colon cleansing believe that toxins from your gastrointestinal tract can cause a variety of health problems, such as arthritis, allergies and asthma. They say that colon cleansing — also called colonic irrigation — removes these toxins, thus promoting healthy intestinal bacteria, boosting your energy and enhancing your immune system.
While there is little scientific evidence to support or refute the benefits of colon cleansing, critics say it’s generally unnecessary and at times may even be harmful. Although doctors prescribe colon cleansing as preparation for medical procedures such as colonoscopy, most don’t recommend it for detoxification. Their reasoning is simple: The digestive system and bowel naturally eliminate waste material and bacteria — your body doesn’t need enemas or special diets or pills to do this.
One concern with colon cleansing is that it can increase your risk of dehydration. A potentially more serious concern is that certain laxatives used in colon cleansing, such as those with sodium phosphate, can cause a rise in your electrolytes, which can be dangerous if you have kidney disease or heart disease.
If you choose to do colon cleansing, be sure to take these simple precautions:
* Check with your conventional medical providers first, especially if you take any medications or have any health problems.
* Make sure your colon-cleansing practitioner uses disposable equipment that hasn’t been previously used.
* Get a list of specific herbal ingredients and amounts in any colon-cleansing products you use — some herbal supplements can cause health problems.
* Beware of broad or inflated claims that colon cleansing will cure an illness or improve your health.
* Stay well hydrated by drinking lots of fluids while undergoing colon cleansing to prevent dehydration.
If you are considering colon cleansing because of constipation, consider trying these steps first to relieve constipation:
* Drink plenty of fluids, including water
* Eat a diet rich in fiber
* Get regular exercise

Whether it be in the form of juicing fasting, enemas or even colonic detox therapy at a clinic, it has all been valued in one way or another.
The remarkable results that many have experienced shows how effective this really is to lose pounds of fat naturally in a very small amount of time with a good colon detox.
I’ve been using detox therapies for years now and I finally found one product that happens to be online that will actually work really well. It’s 100% natural and safe to use but it will also result in very quick results with weight loss and toxic waste excretion within days of using it.

Fiber and water do exactly that. Whole grains & fruits.
How do you know you need to clean your colon??? I mean, last I looked, I don’t have a "check engine" light for my body.
Good digestive health also means good consistant eating habits. No "detox" diet will scrub away a year of bad eating. Just eat a good diet – all the time. Simple.

Monday, November 30th, 2009does anyone have a PLAN of doing a 7 day or 3 day cleanse? i can’t spend any great deal amount of money, please help
You really don’t need to stop eating when doing a colon cleanse.. If you go to this site, you’ll come across a few different cleanses and there’s also a forum where you can search for answers and ask questions.
Some of the more popular ones are Bentonite & Psyllium, yogurt enema, and the coffee enema. I prefer the Bentonite & Psyllium because it’s cheap, easy, and doesn’t taste all that bad.
"Start with one shake a day and gradually increase as the body adjusts to the additional fiber. It may take 3-5 shakes a day and/or several weeks before you start passing mucoid plaque. Continue taking the shakes as long as mucoid plaque is being eliminated for up to 6 months. Additional cleanses may be necessary in order to thoroughly cleanse the digestive system and can be performed for a few months at a time. Each cleanse should be followed with the use of a good-quality probiotic to replace beneficial bacteria. Maintenance cleanses should be done 2-4 times per year.

Saturday, November 28th, 2009Been having alot of bloating. Can’t really afford a colon cleanse. Does anyone have a home made recipe that will do the job and is not harmful and works?
Stop watching ridiculous infomercials about colon cleansers. There is no such medical procedure as colon cleansing.
Uninformed consumers are easy prey for marketing gimmicks. Couch potatoes need to stop watching TV and get some legitimate education, or they will be constantly duped by salesmen for the rest of their lives.
Need to find ingredients for a home remedy colon cleanse…
Friday, November 27th, 2009I found a web-site a few days ago that had a home remedy colon cleanse, but my husband switched out our computers and now I don’t have the web site. Try as I might, I can’t find it again, and it sounded like it would work pretty well (and it was simple & safe).
I remember it only had a few ingredients, I think water & good gray sea salt, but I don’t remember proportions etc.
Can anyone help me out?

If you feel you just HAVE to cleanse your colon, take a laxative or eat prunes. That should do it. I would clear my social calendar for the weekend if I were you, though. You gonna be spending a lot of time in the restroom.
Is there any good home remedy colon cleanses?
Monday, November 23rd, 2009My stepmom use to use lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. We lost the actual recipe. Anyone remember this one? I will also love to hear about others. Thanks for your time in advance. I appreciate it.

bst home cleansing (that i know of and i’m not a pro on this one) is to just fast for one day with PLENTY of water, and some raw fruits and veggies. (or smoothies made of raw fruits and veggies.) some of the most nutritious ones are: tomatoes, spinach, broccoli, blueberries, and apples.
